1. Why WoodBrik ?
WoodBrik uses completely recycled materials. WoodBrik is a manufactured building block for load-bearing walls of low-rise structures. It is made from the coal fly* ash of power plants and lumber waste that is ground to the consistency of coarse sawdust. Environmentally, the block is 100% waste byproduct.
* Fly ash is a commonly used additive approved for use even in highway concrete.
2. WoodBrik is a superior building material that creates multi-functional wall systems.
WoodBrik is semi-cementitious: the newest class of building material since plastic. It has characteristics of both cement and wood. That is, the raw materials are mixed, can be formed, and harden like concrete, only faster. But the block is much lighter, is not brittle, and can be nailed or sawed using ordinary hand tools.
The result is a large block 24"x12"x6" which interlocks to
form a wall much like Lego toys. The blocks are mortar-less and
designed to be readily bolted to the foundation of a house, with
provision for foundation-bolting of roof trusses They are also:
- Self-insulating (R12-R19 for a 12-inch-thick wall).
- Non-combustible (will not support directly applied flame).
- Weather resistant (will not fail when wet or frozen).
- Shock resistant (will absorb high-powered rifle bullets).
3. WoodBrik costs less.
WoodBrik supplants--in the same instance of use--stud lumber, plywood sheathing, structural concrete blocks, adobe or mortar,
in-wall insulation, exterior siding, interior drywall and (when
stuccoed) paint. In any case, it can be directly painted,
plastered, or textured, making it a superior candidate for lowcost
housing.
The end result is a stronger wall which can be erected at less
expense and with less labor than any other type construction..
It costs less to build, and saves the homeowner heating, with no need
for summertime cooling.
4. WoodBrik is environmentally friendly.
On the environmental end, the use of waste material for
WoodBrik to achieve the above results simultaneously reduces:
- the need to cut trees..
- the need to mine limestone and aggregate..
- the need to consume excess energy for space heating..
- the need to consume energy for production of lumber and
cement and insulation.
- the need for high-energy furnaces or air conditoners.
By using waste which is otherwise landfilled, WoodBrik
minimizes impact on air and water. At the same time, its use
helps offset the amount of "greenhouse" gases flowing to the
atmosphere as a result of production requirements for other types
of building materials, (e.g., kilning of lumber and cement).
5. How to use WoodBrik
WoodBrik is easy to construct and is labor saving over conventional walls. With product orders, Midway provides "how to" packets. Phone or E-mail requests via information below.
